Investing for OKFree

80/365 - Muir Woods Fogbow

Today was a training day. The original plan was for me to drive to Stinson Beach, park the Jeep, and then run home. The idea was to put the jeep at the bottom of the hill so that Lori wouldn't have to ride over the mountain at the end of her ride. I was going to take a short detour on the trip home to create a 10-11 mile run. It's only 6.5 miles by road, but by trail it is 8.5 miles. I needed 10 or so for my Dipsea training. Then, I was going to ride with Lori (after her swim) along the coast for a while and then back up over the mountain for a 30 mile ride.

Yesterday evening (after another 11 mile run), my left knee was tired. Not really sore, just tired -- which is a sure sign that it will be sore if you aren't careful. Anyway, I woke up this morning and the knee was a little stiff. I decided I shouldn't run.

So, I drove the Jeep down to Stinson, as planned, and rode my bike back up over the mountain to the house. I got back home shortly after Lori had returned from her masters swimming program. We jumped on our bikes and took off, but now I was committed to the whole (50 or so miles) ride with her.

It rained a bit as we rode along the coast, but then the sun popped out in Olema. Things started looking nice, and it warmed up a bit. We stopped in Pt. Reyes Station for bakery goodies, and then headed back home... into a big, black cloud. It rained for most of the ride back to the jeep. At least we didn't have to climb and descend the mountain in those terrible conditions. We were pretty cold and miserable, but the miles were logged. I even rode hard the last 5 miles or so so I could warm the jeep up for Lori.

Unfortunately for her, I didn't beat her to the jeep. As I was riding along Bolinas Lagoon, I saw a kingfisher sitting on the power line. I had to stop and look because I've never seen one before. It was very cool (despite the rain!). We also saw a great horned owl in a big cypress tree. Also cool.

So, OKFree fast approaches. I feel reasonably good about my training, but I still have a lot of work to do. A few rides to work next week will help. It's, apparently, as safer bet to invest in OKFree than most other places, so that's what I did today.
